2016

I've kept this blog, on and off, since 2006. In 2015 I used it to chart daily encounters, images, thoughts and feelings about volcanic basalt/bluestone in Melbourne and Victoria, especially in the first part of the year. I plan to write a book provisionally titled Bluestone: An Emotional History, about human uses of and feelings for bluestone. But I am also working on quite a few other projects and a big grant application, especially now I am on research leave. I'm working mostly from home, then, for six months, and will need online sociability for company!

Comment moderation begins.

It's not that I get a huge number of spam comments. But one of them today was of an obscene nature. And I don't have to take that, or have it sitting on my blog until I can get to it and delete it.

So from now on I'm moderating comments. I don't think there'll be much of a delay between your posting and my releasing it. And a little delay is better than your reading filth in this place.

That is all.

Comment moderation is essential in my view Stephanie. I wonder that more people don't try it. Not for me the trolls.

I have trouble understanding the motivation behind spam, unless it's a machine generating the abuse. It's all about spoiling.

Nasty. I've never had anything obscene, just suspicious links and ads. And one entertainingly religious one about the voice of God which I suspect was attracted by the content of the post in question (Christina of Markyate and speech). But my blog isn't particularly high-traffic, so I can get away with not moderating.

Life is better post-moderation, I found at ITM: but then again we faced both spamming and relentless trolling.

Can I ask, was it from a publisher of "erotic" poetry? I had such a comment posted on my [children's literature] blog the other day and was pretty outraged by it. I was tempted to send them an email saying WTF?! but didn't want to encourage them...

Misrule, yes, that was it exactly, and another blogger well known to these pages has been similarly affected/targetted. Vile, vile behaviour. And I'm not having any of it here!
